Getting Started

 

The purpose of this document is to outline the WEB – AMS Application for use in meeting the January 31st  2003, deadline for filing Automated Manifest Sea Information with US Customs.

Section 1: Getting Started:

 

In order to participate in filing Web-AMS manifests with US Customs you must meet one of the following criteria.

 

  1. You are a Registered NVOCC and you meet US Customs requirements to file AMS directly with the US Government. (See Customs FAQ)
  2. You are a participant with a registered NVOCC and will be required to participate as an AGENT/Export Forwarder.

 

Steps to get started:

1)      Contact Sectra, LLC

2)      Register with US Customs

3)      Provide Sectra, LLC the attached information sheet

 

1)      Contact Sectra, LLC

Contact Kevin B. Gavin 978-834-7803.  He will provide you an overview and online demonstration of the application and its capabilities.

 

If you decide to use Sectra, LLC as your Web-AMS provider, the following steps will be conducted:

a.       Enter into contract with Sectra, LLC

b.      Complete the information sheet (section 3)

 

2)      Register with US Customs by sending a letter with the following elements:

Section 2: System Requirements

 

Internet Browser

Web-AMS is utilized to operate most efficiently using Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater.  If you do not use Microsoft Internet Explorer, download the software from the Microsoft website.

 

·        Go to www.microsoft.com

·        In the right hand column under downloads, click on Internet Explorer 6

 

Adobe Acrobat Reader

There are reports that operate using Adobe Acrobat Reader.  If you do not have this software you may download it for free by:

 

·        Go to www.adobe.com

·        Under support select ‘Download Acrobat Reader’

·        In the blue box, click the Acrobat Reader icon

 


Section 3:   General Overview and Product Description

 

The Application WEB – AMS is an internet based data warehouse for your SEA – AMS container manifest information.  Data transmitted or entered into WEB – AMS is stored, formatted and sent to US Customs in an ANSI X12 EDI format meeting US Customs specifications. The WEB-Interface allows the entry of data into simple to use forms that catalog and format the data for transmission to US Customs.
